My overarching priorities- Economic Development, Affordability,

and Sustainability

 

 

 

Council Work and Committee Assignments-

Economic Development Committee (2019-2022): Organized the Small Business Resiliency Fund during Covid, which gave over 84 grants to Princeton businesses.  Worked to reduce change of use variances, helping attract and retain more small businesses. supported expanded outdoor dining  to help businesses survive, created initiatives to activate the downtown.  

 

Experience Princeton - (founded 2023) Spearheaded the creation of the special improvement district, Experience Princeton (EP), one of the largest in NJ. ​ EP is dedicated to strengthening and promoting all of Princeton through placemaking, marketing and economic development. EP serves a wide and varied geographic area that includes all commercial areas of Princeton.  Promotions and initiatives that help our business community include:-Restaurant Week, E-Digital gift cards, Outdoor Dining Ordinance, Bloom Local.  Interface with businesses on streetscape projects, plantings, improved trash collection and parking policies, holiday decorations, creation of a leasing plan and revision of change of use zoning codes.

Affordable Housing, Planning and Redevelopment Committee- (2021-present) Ensures our compliance with the town’s constitutional obligation to provide affordable housing; supports the advancement of community interests through programs of redevelopment and rehabilitation; and encourages physical development conducive to the social, economic, educational, and environmental improvement of Princeton. The committee identifies and makes recommendations to the governing body for consulting planners for specific projects as needed, and performs other functions related to long term planning.    

Public Safety/Fire Commissioner  - (2020 to present)  Comprised of the Police, Fire Commissioner, Mayor and Administrator works with police, emergency management and fire departments to review safety concerns, plan for emergencies and emerging situations, long range planning for the departments, and recruiting and retention planning. Worked with fire department staff to supplement the all-volunteer force with much needed fire fighters, merge fire inspectors and firefighter departments and look to expand and renovate the Witherspoon Street firehouse to accommodate entire fire department under one roof.

Finance Committee- (2020-present)  Work with staff through the annual budgeting process to ensure that Council  goals are adequately funded while simultaneously ensuring that the municipal tax levy is maintained at a level which protects residents from dramatic year over year increases. We look at non-tax revenue sources such as sewer connection and usage fees, parking garage and meter rates, hotel tax, PILOTS,  voluntary payments, commercial tax revenue and reverse tax appeals that help offset property taxes.

Infrastructure & Operations Committee (2024-present)-Work with engineering staff to maintain and enhance the municipality's infrastructure, environmental stewardship, and public services. This includes streetscape projects,  street repairs and improvements, cleanliness of the CBD, leaf and brush pickups, food scraps program, sewer infrastructure, and facilities maintenance.

 

Transit Steering Committee-(2024-present) Work with staff, consultants and stakeholders to redesign and expand our free public transport system.  In anticipation of the delivery of 2 new EV buses, adding new, faster routes to accommodate growing resident population, students, residents and employees.       

Princeton University Negotiating Committee (2020-2024) -Secured a five-year, $50 million voluntary payment agreement with Princeton University.  This agreement includes incremental annual increases, an additional $1.5 million for our municipal transit service, $7.5 million for infrastructure improvements—specifically for our sewer system— more than $1 million for our fire equipment and personnel and more than $5 million in payments for homeowners who qualify for homestead tax rebates.

 

Public Art Ad Hoc Committee- (2024-present) Spearheading the study group and working to establish a funded public art program for Princeton that would be paid for by developers of new construction projects.  This would provide oversight of a fund to support public art including conservation and maintenance.  Reinforce and amplify Princeton’s cultural identity and enhance community pride and civic engagement, provide a platform for creativity and innovation and enhance public art’s role in public spaces, parks, and community development,  cultural tourism, and creative placemaking.

Pedestrian and Bike Advisory Committee-  (2024-present) This committee helps support work of the engineering department in implementing the bike mobility plan.  Working to add bike infrastructure; more bike lanes, shared use paths, bike boulevards and shared lane markings as well as bike parking and improved signage.

Shade Tree Commission- (2020-2021, 2024) Worked to implement the tree protection zone ordinance to protect trees during construction projects.  Worked on the tree canopy study and outreach programs to donate trees.  Set up the tree commemoration program.  Organized the holiday tree decorating program through the downtown.

Recreation Commission- (2021-present) Started the work for the revitalization of Community Park South-our largest recreation facility for the community.  Liaison on steering committees for first and second phase design with consultant.  Outreach for grant and sponsorship opportunity. Beginning phase of revitalization of Grover Park.  

Communications Committee- (2021-present) Working with staff, this committee focuses on long term communication planning with the aim of creating a more integrated, accessible, transparent, and comprehensive civic experience for Princeton residents and community stakeholders. This encompasses overseeing both digital outreach, such as social media, e-newsletters, emergency alerts, and the municipal website, as well as print resources like flyers, mailers, and signage. The improved newsletter, increased community outreach through social media channels, set up guidelines for internal communications and external outreach.
